About Capitals Alliance
In July 2001, the National Capital Commission hosted a special forum in Ottawa (Canada), which gathered together the heads of the planning and development agencies of the capital cities of Australia, Brazil, Canada and the United States of America. At this meeting, the idea was promoted that the planning bodies of these cities should form an alliance - a 'Capitals Alliance' - which would convene an annual forum for the exchange of information, expertise and ideas on how to build and promote national capitals. The Chief Executive of Australia's National Capital Authority, Annabelle Pegrum, proposed Canberra as an ideal site for an inaugural Capitals Alliance forum.
